Glad I left Crunchyroll

Well, glad I left Crunchyroll. I think their new attitude is now clear. They are anti-union. I will not shop or spend money with any company that I know is anti-union if I can possibly help it.

I am not going to get into a discussion about pro or anti union here. Just spreading the word. If you don’t understand why unions are necessary, especially now, do some research. Look at the differences in how employees are treated in union, and non-union shops. Think about where you would rather work. Think about how we are all so concerned about how mangakas and anime artists are treated in Japan – where they don’t have a union. (BTW I just found an excellent article about just that – here.)

Collective action is the only defense we peons have against this corporate culture. And they know it.

Now I admit I am now old and cynical and jaded, having watched the 60s movements been demonized and defeated, having watched my own country move through fear and threats to a place where over 50% of us live in poverty – despite the fact we are working. And where the media machine has learned how to push hot buttons and keep us so in fear we don’t dare organize. I am being held in fear myself over some things.

But at the end of the day I have to look at myself in the mirror, and live with myself. I have to be able to say, yes I accepted that or no, I walked away because I want no part of giving my money and time to that. And I’m deciding now to walk away from Crunchyroll and Funimation and their Evil Corporate Overlords. (you gotta laugh)

And oh yeah, Merry Mabon!!!!!!!!

Isn’t that interesting synchronicity, Mabon is a time to celebrate the harvest, but also to release that which does not serve us…
