7Mononoke’s Questions

1. What is your nationality, if you don’t mind sharing?

I was born in the United States, and I am an American citizen. Ethnically I think I am French and Native American (Cherokee) on my mothers side – but she tells a lot of lies, and I don’t know who my father is. I’m not all that attached to being “American” and if the right opportunity were to open up to change citizenship, I’d probably take it. I’m not a Weeaboo who thinks all my problems would go away if I were in Japan, I’m just ashamed of my country.

2. What are your hopes and/or plans for your blog?

I don’t really have any. I blog because I can’t stop writing. I’m well over the “make millions on the Internet” and I don’t do goals. I’m retired. Just foolin’ around here.

3. What is one of your top favorite plot twists in anime/games?

Hmm, this is kind of a tough one. I read tons of books, especially mysteries, and I love it when they have completely fooled me about “whodunit” assuming that it’s someone who should have been clear from the clues given but through misdirection or whatever, you’re like “OF COURSE – why didn’t I see that at all?”

But in anime or games… in anime I have to say the twist in Puella Magi Madoka Magica is one of my all time favorite reveals and made that anime one of my all time favs. I almost said I don’t play that kind of games but I do play Choice Of games and text based RPG games. Still, I can’t bring one to mind with a big twist. Sorry.

4. What are your top three favorite genres for anime/games?

For anime; Slice of Life, Supernatural, Iseki, although I am not exclusive and I like fusions like say, Natsume Youjin Chou or The Morose Mononokean 😉

For games; Text Based Adventure, Collection type (like Zen Koi), Idle Games with a nod to Puzzle Games (Mahjongg is my big favorite), FPS (but I don’t like the war games where you shoot PEOPLE so I lean towards Robot Wars or fantasy types), and Mystery Objects. Basically cute cats or horses will suck me in every time, unless I have to shoot them.

5. What are some things that can or have completely turn you off to an anime/game?

With anime, I am a real art snob. I have stopped an anime less than ten minutes in because I could not stand the artwork.

With games, because I like a lot of different games I’m probably a bit more tolerant. My big block with games is I am on a budget so if they want great, greaping gobs of money to play, then I’m not going to be playing.

6. Take or find a screenshot of anime/game character whose expression fits your mood?

7. Who is an anime/game character with a design you really, really love? If you can, post a screenshot or wallpaper of that character.

OMG just ONE?

Because Yuko simply is the coolest. Ever.

My Questions:

  1. What is THE most Nerdy thing about you?
  2. Tell us about an anime/manga/book/game that you think is seriously underrated and unappreciated – that hidden gem you’ve always wanted to share.
  3. Tell us how an anime/manga/book/game literally changed your life in some way, large or small.
  4. Have you ever gone to a Con? What was your favorite thing – or what would be the one thing that would make you go to a Con if you haven’t yet.
  5. I’m trying to set up a real world gaming group to play tabletop games and you answered my ad. What tabletop games are you most interested in playing? Would you DM/GM or be a player only?
  6. What is the very first video game you remember playing?
  7. It is early on a cold, rainy morning and you wake up hearing something crying pitifully. Quietly you move around your house and assure yourself it’s none of your pets/kids/loved ones before you step outside and find a lost, wet, pathetic stray ????? on your front doorstep. What is it, and do you bring it inside, or what?

It’s no secret, I hope, that I get a big kick out of being tagged and playing along so feel free to tag me anytime. If you want to be tagged, tell me in the comments and I will make it so!

  1. Thank you for the tag and those are some pretty nice answers as well! I loved the art you shared! I figured out almost all the other answers before I read them! Like the types of games you play and all 😛 But that felt pretty satisfying to read! I am really feeling I am beginning to know you quite well 😀

  2. The twist in “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” was amazing. In fact, everything about that that series was amazing. Do you remember the ED Magia by Kalafina? Madoka is first walking, then running past the other characters; they’re all in outline. Only one — Homura — reaches out to her as she passes.

It took a random Youtube comment to make me see that!

“Because Yuko simply is the coolest. Ever.”

Yet another example of your exceptional taste.

Thanks for the tag and the interesting questions! I’ll try to come up with some interesting answers!

    1. Wow – I never realized that about the ED. Now I have to go find it and watch it again. I shall look forward to your always insightful replies!
