Kore Wa Watashi Blog Award; Bio by Anime

Once again, my blogging bestie Pinkie has come up with something uniquely her that yet appeals to most of this great community of anime bloggers I am privileged to feel I am a small part of. I am complimented to be tagged, and it also gives me a reason to battle the WP block editor dragon. Because, you know, Kore Wa Watashi could be fun! Let me apologize in advance because if you ever want to see this completed it will be without any pretty anime pictures. Between block editor and worrying about copyright/netiquette it’s just easier.

First off I’ll copy both the rules and the non-rules. Maybe the non-rules and the questions is a better description. Anyway, here that is:

For this tag I shall not ask for a mention of the blog creator, nor do you have to display the logo if you do not want. In fact I am even keeping it optional if you want to tag the person who nominated you. By not forcing you.. the gesture of tagging and thanking them or the creator for that matter will be that much more sincere! So I will leave that up to you!

-The Purpose of this tag is very simple! Describe yourself through anime! To do this you will answer all of the following questions:

  1. Describe a hobby or passion you have through an anime series! For example Shokugeki no Soma if you like cooking or Initial D if you like cars.
  2. Simplify yourself to an Anime Archetype (Tsundere, Dojiko, Shota, Shounen-Protagonist etc)  don’t overthink what an archetype is, go with your gut. Name a character that is also that Archetype.
  3. Describe your looks through comparing it with anime characters, you can decide how many!
  4. Describe your romantic bias and or sexuality through anime characters you find attractive.
  5. Tell us about your day to day life and what anime that would fit into! You can be creative here!
  6. Describe your hopes and dreams through an anime character.

And let the description commence!

My hobbies or passions in anime: I have a fairly ridiculous number of hobbies and passions, actually. Although they all often intersect and harmonize overall, I guess other people find some of them, well, not what they expected. So that I don’t end up typing the Encyclopedia Brittanica here, I’m going to focus on three hobbies because they happen to have animes that very nicely explore them that are animes I also especially like.

Oban Star Racers is a wild, passionate romp of an anime that (guess who) Pinkie turned me on to by mentioning it on her blog. While star racers are not, strictly speaking, World Rally Car races under the FIA, I feel like this anime nicely covers exactly what makes following WRC such fun. First the human interest stories, and the spirit of never quit, never give up, go for what you want, and enjoy the adventure while you’re at it. Plus, high speed racing with risk and skill required.

I’ve been interested in origami for many years. It just amazes me when someone starts with a plain sheet of paper and voila it’s a flower, or a box, something beautiful or useful or both. A few years ago, I finally set aside the time to learn folding, and I am still folding this day. Origami is featured one way or another in more anime than you would think – but my favorite  is R.O. D. (Read or Die) with three sisters who are detectives and fight using magical origami. That would be a very cool magic power to have!

In The Pet Girl of Sakurosou, Mashiro  is an artist of the most flaky and talented kind. She needs a keeper. And that would be Sorata. I know my hubby will tell you I need a keeper, too, and he’s it. I’m not nearly as talented, and will never be world famous, but I dabble.

My anime archetype would be the Deredere, and of course, the prime example is Tohru Honda who concentrates determinedly on the good things in life even while her own family treats her like something you’d wipe off your shoe before you come inside. Like many deredere’s she comes from a rather sad background (although she did have a cool mom) but rather than letting it sink her in depression or giving up, she copes, goes forward, and always finds the best in any one and any thing.

Describe my looks through anime characters. Don’t laugh, my first thought was Magical Girl Ore’s magical girl transformation look. I was a body builder when I was in my 20s, and quite muscular and athletic looking. Nowadays just think of the stock Grandma character – about four feet tall and three feet wide. I most closely resemble a fireplug. But if we’re talking about grandmothers, Reiko Natsume would be my choice.

Not that she looks anything like me. Part of my problem here is you don’t see a lot of punk haircuts on anime girls – they mostly have long flowing hair. So do I, when I’m wearing a wig. LOL. Akatsuki of Log Horizon, if she ever got a serious haircut, has a little resemblance. As in, we both come up to most people’s waistline, but we’re pretty tough anyway.

Describe my romantic bias or sexuality. Janine Renard, “Fox” in The Gargoyles is one of the few bisexual women I could even find listed anywhere. I have to admit not only could I not think of anyone in any anime I’ve seen, I had not really realized that Fox was bi. There are certainly lesbians who share my attraction for fem girls, and straight girls who share my attraction for borderline fem men. As one of my friends used to say I like my girls to be girls, and I like my boys to be girls, too.. There isn’t anyone really who comes close. I fall more for minds and personalities than bodies. I note that most of the bisexual women characters on Wikipedia’s list are villains. Hah. You’re just jealous because I get twice as much sex, and both men and women like me 😛  Bad Willow of Buffy the Vampire Slayer comes close though.

My day to day life. Well, used to be vaguely similar to any given idol show. Kind of. I think I’d slot quite easily into Poyopoyo. Yuko Ichihara of XXXholic and I could totally sit down for a good drinking session. Every day. My hubby could join Kimihiro in the kitchen, although he doesn’t do cleaning. Just cooking. I would so hang out with The Eccentric Family. And if you just switch the roles, hubby and I are perfect for I Don’t Understand What My Husband is Saying. We would both volunteer for Log Horizon, too. If we got sucked into an Isekai I don’t think either of us would be fighting too hard to find a way home. Even if we were slime.

My hopes and dreams through an anime character. Kino, of Kino’s Journey. While we really can’t travel full time anymore, I hope to be able to travel a little and go camping on weekends again starting next year. And in my imagination, Silver Spoon ends with Aki and Yuugo Hatchiken getting together and turning her families dairy farm into a horse training or breeding stable – I’m down for that in the long term. Or, you know, back to Poyopoyo and their little farm. But I’m much more likely to end up Kirihime Natsuno of Dog and Scissors, but with cats.

Thanks for the tag, Pinkie!

Let’s spread this fun little tag far and wide! Have fun! Blessedbe.

  1. “Akatsuki of Log Horizon, if she ever got a serious haircut, has a little resemblance. As in, we both come up to most people’s waistline, but we’re pretty tough anyway.”

Of all the characters in Log Horizon, I’d want to fight her the least. Not only does her size give her an advantage, but she has some serious ninja skills!

“Bad Willow of Buffy the Vampire Slayer comes close though.”

I always thought Bad Willow was Best Willow. Well, not really, but it seemed like a neat sentence!

Thanks for the tag. I’m going to have to give this a lot of thought. This tag might have the hardest questions yet.

  2. I thought I answered already but I guess I forgot to press answer again or fell asleep while answering. These were some pretty amazing answers! I don’t think the magical Girl Ore one is that weird! I imagined you as a slightly more olderl ooking Super Saiyan Kale from Dragon Ball Super. Yay for mentioning Oban Star Racers.

    Great post!

    1. I had to go look Kale up and find pictures. I can live with that 😀 Wish I had (ever) had those abs! I loved Oban Star Racers. I will probably mention them alot 😀
